Over 10,000 Deliveries
And Counting Folks

I contract for several of these delivery apps
I'll explain why delivery service has a sub-par reputation
There are hurdles in the industry's general structure
And specific flaws within the different apps

But first here's all the stuff I did
To make sure your delivery was
FAST,
HOT,
AND AWESOME
Introducing Myself
I sent you a couple of introduction texts through the app
You probably missed them, that's OK lol

I ask if you would like me to knock on the door before leaving
Many people don't want a knock that's fine
But some do want a knock,
And don't get it

You must ask drivers to knock in the delivery instructions,
no way around it

Customers might rate us bad for knocking if they didn't want it
And some are not clear about not wanting a knock

One app in particular

Their rating system is so BRUTAL,
and so UNFAIR to drivers it's crazy

It's so stressful worrying about a bad rating on that app
For something that wasn't even your fault

I absolutely will not knock on your door unless you ask for it

I don't wanna be like Craig from Friday

Have Chris Tucker yelling at me

"Brian, how you get fired for knocking on doors? YOU A DELIVERY DRIVER MANNNNNNN. Ain't Y'all suppose to knock on doors"

Food Holding Temperature Is Serious
I use electrically heated bags when appropriate
I've done food temperature with and without tests
It makes a difference

No Add On Deliveries
Even though it means I make less money
After you accept the first delivery
The apps may offer you extra delivery's
But it makes your first delivery take longer
So I say NO to them

Order Verification
I do everything reasonably possible
But most bags are sealed
And we can't break the seal
If the bag is obviously wrong
I'm not leaving until the restaurant checks it
Period

I've had to really fight with a few restaurant employee's
To get them to check the bag
And be like "oh you were right driver"

My Own GPS Mapping System
I use multiple GPS systems
Including one I actually built myself
A.K.A Mr. Never Lost

Retail Item Finder
If I'm doing a retail shop for you
I built my own item locator
For the stores I choose to shop
Some stores are a mess to shop
99 cent store No Thank You lol

I Triple Check Delivery Instructions
When I accept your order
When I'm at the restaurant
And at your door

Delivery Drop Off Accuracy Strategies
I've NEVER dropped off at the wrong location

I use the delivery apps navigation system
(Some aren't that great)

I run Google My Maps
on a secondary device for exact GPS pin locations

I check your house marker if there is one

I check for a driveway number marking

I check for a mailbox number marker

lastly I use a time stamp / GPS address marking camera app for my proof of delivery pictures.

It saved me once from dropping off at the wrong house, totally worth it.

Why Is Service Sometimes Sub-Par

It's A Combination Of Things

And on some apps they overlap so perfectly badly
Is it accidental, or purposeful?

And once drivers discover the failings of the ratings system
It makes them make decisions that may impact service
Just to avoid getting a bad rating

So before rating future drivers
Read the story down below
It's just one example of what SOME company's put their drivers through

Folks, I still contract for these company's
So I have to walk a fine line here
the time is coming when I go deep
But for now just the basics

The way some apps offer dispatches sucks
They will create a double delivery from two different restaurants
But one of the restaurants is notoriously slow
They have the numbers, they know this
So one of the orders could have arrived 15 minutes sooner
If it wasn't part of the double

They will take a delivery that no driver wants
A low company pay, no tip order
That has been ignored for 10 minutes
Combine it with a delivery that has a fat tip
So the double delivery overall is attractive to drivers
But the ignored order ends up having a long delivery time
And not because of the driver

But the customer has no idea how these apps dispatch
So they just rate the driver bad
Which really has a negative impact on our future earning potential

THE STORY DOWN BELOW

I was in chill out mode talking with a worker at one of the quick prep Mexican restaurants

There were two (certain delivery app company) orders sitting there
I'm like ya they offered me those
But they were somehow only $2.75 pay each for over 3 miles
That's like $1.50 below the normal pay for the mileage each
Nobody's going to want them

We must of talked 20 minutes, still no driver accepted
Then a triple delivery is offered to me
12 bucks to deliver 3 orders
The two nobody wanted for $5.50 total
And doing the math a $6.50 order
With a tip included because the base mileage is about $4

But I had to decline it, and the worker was like why?

Those two orders that sat for 20 minutes
Are going to be cold and late
Well I use heated bags so just late
And at least one of them will give me a really low rating for being so late
Even though it wasn't my fault

people don't understand what a brutal impact those ratings have
(on some apps)

No way I'm taking a bad rating
For something in no way my fault

Not even a minute later a driver showed up
And grabs the triple, a new guy
Young kid I've never seen before

Tomorrow he's going to be confused why he has a really bad rating from somebody

He's going to have no clue what he did wrong
Because he didn't do anything wrong
The app set his butt up to fail

And they will block that customers written comment about the problem
Ya they do that

All he will see is MAYBE a thumbs down for order handling

Only one delivery app tells us what time you placed the order
And not many people even use that app in Yuba / Sutter
The others just give us an adjusted deliver by time
So we are all smiling because we are on time

But we never know the total time your order took
We may have knocked it out in 15 minutes
But because we didn't get the offer until 20 minutes after you ordered
It actually took 35

I've got some things coming that will improve service
So just hang tight

And keep an eye on this website OK folks
It will be expanding
